<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Press and hold Power and volume down buttons simultaneously until you see a large arrow at the top of your screen.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Press the volume down button repeatedly until you see “Recovery” in the arrow.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Select it by pressing the power button.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">You’ll see an android mascot with a red triangle and exclamation mark.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Hold down the power and press the volume up button once and then release the power button.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Press the volume down button repeatedly to select “erase or wipe the cache partition” from the list of options.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">Wait for the process to complete and then restart your device.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue",Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">If successful, you should notice an improvement in your tablet’s performance.

Adopting my experience from the command line window (boxed selection), I rediscovered how to make a rectangular selection in MS Word: Hold down Alt while dragging on the selection. This can be very useful in extracting data from a columnar/tabular information in a document. Simply select the desired column, copy & paste it in Excel. Repeat this for each column. Use the formatting techniques below as needed.

Rectangular selection/boxed selection:

Alt-drag

Excel

After years of using MS Excel, I still learn new things that makes work and life a lot easier! For today, these includes removing leading and trailing spaces (blank spaces) after a paste operation and adding leading zeroes to an existing number.

Remove leading/trailing spaces:

=TRIM(C2) in a blank cell then copy back the value to the original reference cell.

Add leading zeroes:

=TEXT(A1,"0000") in a blank cell then copy back the value to the original reference cell.

Source: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3992541/add-leading-zeroes-0s-to-existing-excel-values-to-certain-length by GSerg & Martin

Notepad++

I use this as intermediary between softcopies made in various applications, such as MS Office, and Dokuwiki. Here I paste formatted (Wiki-compliant - all symbols included) texts, usually from Excel, and simply "copy-find-paste-replace all" things I want deleted (like extra spaces or tabs) or formatted in a certain way as defined in the "replace with" string.

I choose the Extended option whenever I find/replace carriage return/CR (\r) and new line/LF (\n) symbols.

I hope these learnings can help others searching for similar solutions.
Have a nice day!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15114354604216125363noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4054811245733133433.post-57225207873558413512012-12-03T00:07:00.001-08:002012-12-03T00:17:58.309-08:00ATM ATe My CardIt was my Metrobank Credit Card's due date and as usual, I came to the same Metrobank ATM machine in Cybergate 3-Pioneer where I usually pay my Metrobank Credit Card using my Chinabank ATM. But this day, technology has bitten me... the machine ate my ATM card!!!

I approached the building guard but he simply advised me to wait further as the machine will spit out my ATM card. Guess what??? It never did. So I went to the adjacent store to call 8700700 using a Bayantel Wireless Landline. The CSR made a report and gave me a reference number advising me that it'll take 5 or more banking days before I can retrieve my ATM card. I asked for the nearest Metrobank branch where I can do an over-the-counter transaction but he rather advised me to ask Chinabank to make a manual debit for this transaction.

When I approached Chinabank's staff, she told me that they do not do manual debit and advised me to transact online instead using my Chinabank Online Banking account. Unfortunately, I forgot my User ID, password, and email address and she cannot retrieve it for me. Good thing, she has another alternative: Bancnet Online!

www.bancnetonline.com enabled me to do balance inquiry for my Chinabank account free-of-charge. It also allowed me to pay for my Metrobank Credit Card dues by simply providing account and payment information similar to that found in ATMs when paying for bills.

Bancnet has done a very good job leveraging on existing online technologies and pairing it with a very familiar user experience similar to that in ATMs, which makes the facility useful to their clients with low technology learning curve.

Nice job, Bancnet!
Then I tried ordering another meal (hotdog-egg-rice) but, again, to no avail. So I ended up ordering pancake for breakfast with hot choco, which, later, I exchanged for pineapple juice when I felt that the weather is slowly becoming hot. Well, an indication that the sun's high and that I'm already late for work!

On my way home, I dropped by the same branch and ordered a burger meal. As expected, they still got no stock. I felt a little strange and wondered how a multi-billion company would fail on this aspect. So, I just suspected that all of these are caused by Storm Ondoy in one way or another.

Upon reaching KABAKA Library, I tried fixing the hotspot server. So, we did... with unset hotspot software.

In the middle of the movie, some other friends who are studying outside, along KABAKA Library's alley, thought of ordering Shakey's pizza. I'm not claiming it's a particularly good time either. The truth is
more boring: the state of the economy doesn't matter much either way.

If we've learned one thing from funding so many startups, it's that they
succeed or fail based on the qualities of the founders. The economy has some
effect, certainly, but as a predictor of success it's rounding error
compared to the founders.

Which means that what matters is who you are, not when you do it. If you're
the right sort of person, you'll win even in a bad economy. And if you're
not, a good economy won't save you. Someone who thinks "I better not start a
startup now, because the economy is so bad" is making the same mistake as
the people who thought during the Bubble "all I have to do is start a
startup, and I'll be rich."

So if you want to improve your chances, you should think far more about who
you can recruit as a cofounder than the state of the economy. And if you're
worried about threats to the survival of your company, don't look for them
in the news. Look in the mirror.

But for any given team of founders, would it not pay to wait till the
economy is better before taking the leap? If you're starting a restaurant,
maybe, but not if you're working on technology. Technology progresses more
or less independently of the stock market. So for any given idea, the payoff
for acting fast in a bad economy will be higher than for waiting.
Microsoft's first product was a Basic interpreter for the Altair. That was
exactly what the world needed in 1975, but if Gates and Allen had decided to
wait a few years, it would have been too late.

Of course, the idea you have now won't be the last you have. There are
always new ideas. But if you have a specific idea you want to act on, act
now.

That doesn't mean you can ignore the economy. Both customers and investors
will be feeling pinched. It's not necessarily a problem if customers feel
pinched: you may even be able to benefit from it, by making things that save
money. Startups often make things cheaper, so in that respect they're better
positioned to prosper in a recession than big companies.

Investors are more of a problem. Startups generally need to raise some
amount of external funding, and investors tend to be less willing to invest
in bad times. They shouldn't be. Everyone knows you're supposed to buy when
times are bad and sell when times are good. But of course what makes
investing so counterintuitive is that in equity markets, good times are
defined as everyone thinking it's time to buy. You have to be a contrarian
to be correct, and by definition only a minority of investors can be.

So just as investors in 1999 were tripping over one another trying to buy
into lousy startups, investors in 2009 will presumably be reluctant to
invest even in good ones.

You'll have to adapt to this. But that's nothing new: startups always have
to adapt to the whims of investors. Ask any founder in any economy if they'd
describe investors as fickle, and watch the face they make. Last year you
had to be prepared to explain how your startup was viral. Next year you'll
have to explain how it's recession-proof.

(Those are both good things to be. The mistake investors make is not the
criteria they use but that they always tend to focus on one to the exclusion
of the rest.)

Fortunately the way to make a startup recession-proof is to do exactly what
you should do anyway: run it as cheaply as possible. For years I've been
telling founders that the surest route to success is to be the cockroaches
of the corporate world. The immediate cause of death in a startup is always
running out of money. The cheaper your company is to operate, the harder it
is to kill. Fortunately it has gotten very cheap to run a startup, and a
recession will if anything make it cheaper still.

If nuclear winter really is here, it may be safer to be a cockroach even
than to keep your job. Customers may drop off individually if they can no
longer afford you, but you're not going to lose them all at once; markets
don't "reduce headcount."

What if you quit your job to start a startup that fails, and you can't find
another? That could be a problem if you work in sales or marketing. In those
fields it can take months to find a new job in a bad economy. But hackers
seem to be more liquid. Good hackers can always get some kind of job. It
might not be your dream job, but you're not going to starve.

Another advantage of bad times is that there's less competition. Technology
trains leave the station at regular intervals. If everyone else is cowering
in a corner, you may have a whole car to yourself.

You're an investor too. As a founder, you're buying stock with work: the
reason Larry and Sergey are so rich is not so much that they've done work
worth tens of billions of dollars, but that they were the first investors in
Google. And like any investor you should buy when times are bad.

Were you nodding in agreement, thinking "stupid investors" a few paragraphs
ago when I was talking about how investors are reluctant to put money into
startups in bad markets, even though that's the time they should rationally
be most willing to buy? Well, founders aren't much better. When times get
bad, hackers go to grad school. And no doubt that will happen this time too.
In fact, what makes the preceding paragraph true is that most readers won't
believe it—at least to the extent of acting on it.

So maybe a recession is a good time to start a startup. It's hard to say
whether advantages like lack of competition outweigh disadvantages like
reluctant investors. But it doesn't matter much either way. It's the people
that matter. And for a given set of people working on a given technology,
the time to act is always now.

http://www.paulgraham.com/badeconomy.htmlAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15114354604216125363noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4054811245733133433.post-31466101947948887432008-10-17T00:35:00.001-07:002008-10-17T00:39:43.727-07:00Let the Technopreneurial Revolution Begin! To my fellows @ Pilosopong Tasyo Technopreneurs' Cooperative (defunct)

Hi, Ka-Tasyo!

Eventhough our cooperative is gone, I know that our technopreneurial spirit is still alive! In this light, may I suggest that this e-group be a network of Filipinos with technopreneurial spirit who will continuously strive to look for ways on how to develop one's self and in the process help the country develop as well through technology, its management, and entrepreneurship!

And to put my money where my mouth is, I am starting a somewhat technology-based business, albeit informal, that will serve coffee as well and I am looking for a good and cheap but quality coffee bean supplier or store. You might know one or some seller/operator/ owner? Preferably easily accessible from Quezon City. I will be glad for any kind of assistance from anyone of you here in our group.

Let's start this technopreneurial revolution!! !

Best regards,

Jong San PedroAnonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15114354604216125363noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4054811245733133433.post-64939042353357821252008-08-21T00:34:00.000-07:002008-08-21T20:10:44.272-07:00TWEET!!! Tweet!! tweet! twee...Just as I thought... Twitter won't be able to lift up the "gigantic whale" -- the telcos -- that long! Mmm... how do we overcome these giants given our numbers? I wonder if we can form a GLOBAL COOPERATIVE of internet users where the contribution by each one is equal (as well as the benefits). With our number, we can generate a significant amount of resources and lay down our own "electronic superhighway" that we, the Global Cooperative, will manage, sustain, and develop ourselves. In that way, no telcos can dictate upon us. We can communicate however we want, whenever, and develop online applications and services that can be truly accessible, therefore making it useful to the humankind. What are your thoughts?Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15114354604216125363noreply@blogger.com0
